Survival Gear:

This page contains recommendations for survival gear that you might want to consider having around, in case you end up facing a terrorist attack or some other disaster.  Some of these items you can create on your own (like a go-bag) others you will probably have to purchase (such as a gas mask).  We won't lie to you, The Future Watch makes a small amount of money if you buy one of these products by clicking to it from this page.  Doing so will not change your costs at all, and it will help us pay for maintaining and improving this website.  Furthermore, both of these companies are responsible suppliers that have received favorable mention in many prominent news outlets.  Please let us know if you have any trouble dealing with either of these companies - we don't want to recommend bad companies or products.  Also, please email us at admin@thefuturewatch.com if you have any ideas for additional items we should consider recommending.

Nitro-Pak This link will take you to a page where you can buy a gas mask for evacuating during a WMD attack.  This mask is used by many militaries and police departments, and it provides excellent protection short-term against most WMD attacks.  It comes with a new filter.

Nitro-Pak Potassium Iodide Pills This link will take you to a page where you can buy Potassium Iodide pills.  If you take these immediately after a nuclear or dirty bomb attack, you can minimize your chances of developing thyroid cancer.

Life+Gear's "Wings of Life" Backpack  This link will take you to a page where you can buy a go-bag.  A go-bag is a portable survival kit you can grab and go with in the case of an emergency.  Frankly, you should probably make your own go-bag, and not buy this one.  And, you should probably include a gas mask (this one does not).  That said, owning this would certainly be better than being completely unprepared.

Nitro-Pak Radiation Monitor This link will take you to a page where you can buy a personal radiation monitor.  This monitor can be attached to your key chain, and it will chirp to let you know about dangerous radiation levels.  In the event of a dirty bomb attack, or an accident involving the transport of nuclear materials, this monitor could save your life.

Nitro-Pak Avian Flu Evac. Kit This link will take you to a page where you can buy an Avian Flu Evacuation kit.  Of course, the best thing to have to combat the Avian Flu would be a good anti-viral - such as Tamiflu.  But, since you can't buy that right now (don't trust any site that says it sells it), and it might not be effective anyway, it's probably smart to be prepared to evacuate any major city.

Nitro-Pak Rehydration Salts This link will take you to a page where you can buy Oral Rehydration Salts.  For many types of disease the illness itself does not kill you - the dehydration caused by severe diarrhea does.  Rehydration salts are key to preventing this dehydration.

Nitro-Pak Hospital Masks This link will take you to a page where you can buy hospital grade masks.  A gas mask may allow you to evacuate after a WMD attack.  But for a prolonged epidemic, you need a mask you can wear constantly.  With a large supply of these masks, you may be able to wait out a biological disaster.

Nitro-Pak Windup Radio This link takes you to a page where you can buy a windup radio.  With this radio you can listen to radio and tv broadcasts during an emergency.  Furthermore, you can also use the hand crank to charge your cell phone.

Life+Gear's 6-in-1 PSD  This link takes you to page a where you can buy another windup radio.  This one is a little cheaper than the Nitro-Pak version, and it also allows you to charge your cell phone.

Nitro-Pak NBC Suit This link takes you to a page where you can buy a NBC First Responder suit.  This suit, along with a gas mask, would give you a very good chance of safely evacuating an area that has been contaminated by a WMD attack.  That said, this suit is useless without a gas mask, so buy a good gas mask first.

Nitro-Pak Food Supply This link takes you to a page where you can buy a three month supply of food for four people.  This is expensive, and you should probably buy the other things listed above first.  That said, having a large supply of food would improve your odds of being able to sit out any disaster.  Furthermore, food for three months is always expensive - and this probably isn't any more expensive than three months of food for four people in your normal life.  If you do buy this food supply, be sure to store a sufficient amount of water as well.

Nitro-Pak Ultimate Disaster Kit This link takes you to a page where you can buy the "Ultimate Family Preparedness Pak."  Basically it's a big kit that includes most of the items listed above.  It's extremely expensive, and, in all honesty, you can probably get more for your dollar if you buy the items you need individually.  That said, if you just want a little peace of mind, and don't mind spending a boatload to get it, then this kit might be for you.
